Educational Psychology Research

Research Source: Educational Psychology - Developing Learners, J.E. Ormond

Findings:

Organization

  • We absorb information more efficiently when we pull it together in a logical way.
  • Presenting related chunks of information together helps students associate related ideas.
Elaboration

  • Students remember new information more effectively if they relate it to what they already know.
This process can be helped along by asking questions such as:

  • Why do you think this happens?
  • Can you think of some examples of this concept?
  • How could we use this in everyday life?
  • What can you conclude from this information?
