Personal Statement

The aim of my project is to investigate the evolution of electronic dance music and genre development. To illustrate the evolution, I will create an interactive audio evolutionary timeline. I plan to examine the links between genres, and also how societal issues affect the music. Using this greater understanding, I will attempt to develop a new genre or sub genre of dance music.

Inspiration and Interests

I am inspired by people who are great at what they do, and also life in general. I like variety and I love to see others progress. I am interested in electronic music, but I often find that there can be a lack of variety within genres and I would like to understand if this issue could be improved upon. I hope that my work could be beneficial to music teachers and students alike, perhaps allowing myself and others greater artistic expression.

Skill Gaps

I will need to develop my Adobe Flash skills in order to create my interactive timeline.

Although I have listed electronic music production as a skill, I feel that there are areas which I need to develop further but I anticipate this will occur from practice over the academic year.
